What did you do before coming to W&L?
I went to law school for 5 years at Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul. While attending law school, full time internships at firms.
How did you choose W&L?
I decided to come to law school in the US in order to focus on a particular area of law as well as to improve my ability as a lawyer and English speaker. Washington and Lee gave me the opportunity to achieve these goals and my choice was a consequence of the quality of an excellent law school in a small environment, where you have unlimited access to professors. The school's profile was decisive.
What's your favorite thing about Washington and Lee?
My favorite thing about Washington and Lee is the small environment. It makes it so much easier to meet new people on such a nice and beautiful campus.
What's your favorite classroom experience?
Following a tradition at Washington and Lee we clapped for each of our professors at the end of the last class of the term. It was outstanding.
Who's your favorite professor?
I liked all my professors but Professor Kirgis wins the prize because I had the chance to learn contracts with him in a small section and he treated me just like any other student from the US, which was challenging and very useful to me.
What do you plan on doing after graduation?
I plan to go back to Brazil and work for a law firm in Sao Paulo, in a corporate team. I also intend to come back to the U.S to have a working experience in an American firm that does business in Brazil.
How will the LL.M program help you achieve your professional goals?
LL.M programs at U.S schools are very well received by international law firms. Firms know they can expect a candidate with such an LL.M to have solid language skills and be able to handle challenging situations, which are key to landing a top firm job in Brazil.
