Open House - Travel and Lodging Details
We are happy to provide hotel accommodations and meals during your visit for Open House. We hope to see you on campus this spring!
We will provide up to two nights lodging in Lexington. The online registration form allows you to specify which nights you will require lodging (most opt to stay Friday and Saturday, but other options are available). If you require a longer stay, please make the appropriate two-night selection as you register, and contact the hotel directly to make arrangements for the additional nights you require. Any incidental charges over and above the cost of accommodations (telephone charges, late check-out fees and the like) will be your responsibility; a credit card imprint will be required when you check in.
You may choose to share a room with another student attending Open House or to be assigned single accommodations - simply indicate your preference when you register. So that we extend the same hospitality to every student attending Open House, your travel reimbursement will be reduced by $50 for each night you require single accommodations.
Breakfast will be provided at your hotel each morning of your stay. We sponsor a welcoming coffee Friday evening prior to the Open House, and Saturday lunch and a closing reception as part of the Open House.
We reimburse all attending accepted students up to $150 for documented travel expenses. Upon matriculating to W&L Law in August, students are eligible to receive up to $150 in additional reimbursement for travel expenses. Please make your own arrangements for travel to Lexington, and keep your receipts for submission (together with this Reimbursement Request Form) after Open House.
Please note the following details and restrictions:
- Reimbursable expenses include airfare, rail fare, parking, taxi fare, car rental charges, tolls and gas.
- Reimbursement is available only for travel to an Open House (not for visits on other dates) and attendance at Open House events is required in order to receive reimbursement.
- All reimbursement request forms, together with detailed receipts, must be postmarked by Wednesday, April 17th. A reimbursement check will be mailed directly to you from the University's Business Office.
- As noted above, so that we provide the same hospitality to every student attending Open House, the travel reimbursement for those requesting a single room will be reduced by $50 for each night of their stay.
Traveling to Lexington
By Air. The closest airport is in Roanoke (ROA), about 50 miles south of Lexington; other airports in the region include Charlottesville, VA, Richmond, VA, Greensboro, NC and Dulles. We are happy to arrange for ground transportation to and from the Roanoke airport. To request ground transportation, provide your arrival and departure times when you register online, or email them separately to us at LawAdm@wlu.edu no later than the Friday the week before your Open House. We regret that we are unable to provide this service for those arriving at other airports. Most airport webpages include information on ground transportation options.
By Car. Lexington is easily accessible by interstate highway (I-81 and I-64 both pass close by). Directions are available by clicking the "Get Directions" link on the left of this page.
Other Options. Lexington has neither a bus depot or train station. Amtrak service is available from Washington DC's Union Station to Staunton, about 30 miles north of Lexington. Visit Amtrak's online reservation service for details - the station code for Union Station is WAS, and the station code for Staunton is STA.
