The legal research component of the program is a required ten percent of your writing grade.
The assignments for the fall semester are: online resources and citation, secondary resources, case law, and statutes. Students are required to complete the assigned Interactive Citation Workshop (selected exercises only).
During the weeks of August 26 and September 2 students are expected attend a class on each of Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and Introduction to Citation. Please note that the Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law classes are limited to twenty-five students. Sign-up sheets are available on TWEN and are on a first come first serve basis. There are no make-up classes available for these clases. Sign-up sheets will be available on August 24, 2012.
Citation, also commonly referred to as Bluebooking, is an important component of the class. The memo format is to be taught; however, deference is given to the individual Writing Professor's preferences in citation format when there is a question. Citation instruction is approximately 30% of your legal research class.
Attendance is mandatory. Students with exigent circumstances should contact their Burks Scholar at the earliest possible time to arrange accommodations.
