Selected students at Washington & Lee may participate in regional and national competitions with expenses covered by the school ONLY IF the Moot Court Executive Board approves the participation. Typically the students selected to represent the school in regional competitions are winners of the same intraschool competition.
Teams are selected to compete in the ABA Appellate Advocacy Competition and the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition based upon the students' success in the John W. Davis Appellate Advocacy Competition, expressed interest, and other intraschool moot court competitions.
