Washington and Lee University School of Law is different. We admit that. In fact, we embrace it.
Approximately 90% of students at W&L Law are receiving some type of financial assistance. The majority receive some form of merit scholarship. To receive optimal consideration for a merit scholarship, your application should be completed by February 1. No separate scholarship application is required.
One of the greatest things about a law degree is that you can do many — and very different — things with it, and our students pursue a variety of careers upon graduation.
W&L Law is one of the smallest of the nation's top law schools, with a current total enrollment of 315. Our small size means your path to a J.D. Degree will be not only challenging, demanding and stimulating but also personal, collegial and humane.
The LL.M. in United States Law is a one-year program of study open to a small, highly selective group of foreign-trained lawyers and other graduates of non-U.S. law schools. The program leads to a Master of Law (LL.M.) in United States Law.
W&L's rigorous third year expands upon the lessons and law of the first- and second-year curriculum, moving students out of the classroom and into the real world of legal practice.
W&L has an Honor System that has been in place for over 100 years. The system is based on the fundamental principle that a spirit of trust makes for a unique educational institution. As it is not codified, the Honor System applies to all aspects of campus life, allowing our students to trust each other and to relax and focus on being law students.
While here, you may tour the campus, attend a class and meet with an admissions representative.
W&L is dedicated to serving individual students and alumni as they further their legal careers. In addition, we work with employers to find the right W&L Law student or graduate to meet their hiring needs.
