On Thursday, January 31, members of Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) presented the proceeds from their annual charity auction to organizers of this year's recipient, the Lexington-Rockbridge Christmas Basket Program. A check in the amount of $10,810 was given to program co-chairs Audrey Hawkins and Ab Hammond.
During the PAD auction, students bid on free dinners, trips, and other items donated by law school faculty and staff. Past recipients of auction proceeds have included the Lexington Free Clinic Dental Services and Rockbridge Area Hospice. The last three auctions together have raised over $41,000 for local charities.

Started in 1949 by the Lexington Women's and Junior Women's Club, the Christmas Basket program provides local children with Christmas presents and local families with staple pantry items. The program has no paid staff and relies on over 600 volunteers each Christmas to prepare packages for delivery. This year, volunteers packed 1525 boxes for 997 families, including 895 children.
Phi Alpha Delta is a service fraternity that works for the law school and local communities and sponsors many charity events including the auction, a canned food drive, and a blood drive. PAD holds membership drives in both the fall and spring semesters.
