Lewis F. Powell - A Century Milestone

September 19, 2007 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Justice Powell, and Washington and Lee University  celebrated this milestone with a year-long series of symposia and lectures exploring Justice Powell's judicial legacy.

Fall 2007 Powell Symposium - The First Amendment and National Security - Sept. 17, 2007

During this symposium legal scholars and journalists will examined how Justice Powell's concurrence in Branzburg v. Hayes continues to inform the issue of reportorial privilege.

Powell, legal scholars and journalists gathered at the School of Law for a symposium addressing National Security and the First Amendment. Powell Centenary Lecture - September 19, 2007

Linda Greenhouse, New York Times Supreme Court Reporter, lectured on the continuing relevance of Justice Powell's opinion in Plyler v. Doe, the case that affirmed the right of undocumented children to a free public education.

Spring 2007 Powell Symposium - Diversity in Higher Education

W&L Law kicked off its celebration of Powell's legacy with a symposium discussing diversity in higher eductation, held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 6, 2007. Audio and video of the symposium panel discussions is available.
