Deferment Policy

Washington and Lee University School of Law

POLICY REGARDING DEFERRED ENROLLMENT

Admitted students who wish to defer enrollment must submit a Request for Deferred Enrollment to the Office of Admissions. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Although in the past we have been able to match the initial scholarship award offered, we are not able to guarantee the availability of scholarship funds in future years. We reconsider deferred students for merit aid in the admissions cycle prior to attendance, with the hope that we will be in a position to match the scholarship originally offered.

Students granted deferred enrollment must:
(1) make the initial non-refundable tuition deposit on or before the applicable due date;
(2) make the second non-refundable tuition deposit on or before the applicable due date;
(3) submit a signed Deferment Agreement provided by the Office of Admissions agreeing not to hold a seat in another law school or pursue application to other law schools during the period of deferment;
(4) confirm their intention to enroll during the admissions cycle prior to their intended enrollment (information regarding scholarship funds will be provided before confirmation is required).
