LL.M. Application Overview
Our LL.M application for the 2016-2017 admissions cycle will be available September 1st. All applicants to our LLM program are required to apply via the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). Applicants to the Washington and Lee LL.M. degree program must register with the Law School Admissions Council's (LSAC) LL.M. Credential Assembly Service. Please visit www.llm.lsac.org to register. The LSAC will collect, authenticate and distribute your university records and TOEFL scores. Five reports to law schools are included in the registration fee of $185. The following materials must be submitted via the Law School Admissions Council:
- Completed, signed and dated application.
- Personal statement (in English)
- A legal writing sample (in English)
- Two letters of recommendation from people who are either law faculty, lawyers or judges with whom you have worked. All letters of recommendation must be submitted via LSAC's Letter of Recommendation service included as part of the Credential Assembly Service.
- Official Transcript(s) of your undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
- Official report of results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), including the Test of Written English (TWE), if your education has been conducted primarily in a language other than English.

Financial Information
Enrollment in the LL.M. program is contingent on the applicant presenting proof of sufficient financial resources. In the ordinary case, this proof will be in the form of a letter from the applicant, a letter from the applicant's sponsor (if applicable) and a letter from a bank or other financial institution verifying that the applicant or the applicant's sponsor has funds sufficient to cover the anticipated expenses. Washington and Lee will be able to offer only limited financial assistance to its LL.M. students; applicants are therefore encouraged to apply for financial assistance in their home countries. English Language Requirement
Applicants to the LL.M. program must submit a valid TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score as a part of their application, unless granted an exemption by the Office of Admissions. Washington and Lee will consider granting an exemption to applicants who are from an English-speaking country, who have earned their first law degree in an English-speaking country or who have earned earned another academic degree in an English-speaking country.
The minimum required score for the TOEFL is 600 on the Paper-based test, 250 on the Computer-based test and 100 on the Internet-based test.

Valid IELTS scores may be accepted in lieu of TOEFL. The minimum required IELTS band score is a 7.
Application Deadline
Applications for the LL.M. program, as well as all supporting materials, must be received by Washington and Lee by March 1 for admission to the program beginning in August.
