Directed Giving

A key strength of W&L Law is our close-knit community that fosters personal and professional growth in a humane academic environment. Our small size allows us to transcend a "one-size-fits-all" student experience. To better reflect this range of experience and promote choice in financial support from law alumni, parents, and friends, the Law Annual Fund now enables directed giving to five key areas.

1. Academics

Designated gifts will be used to cover course development and classroom technology.

2. Diversity and Inclusion

Such gifts will be used to bring diverse speakers to campus, provide anti-racism or implicit bias trainings, and draw diverse candidates to the faculty, staff, and student body. For an overview of the Law School's efforts on this front, visit our Diversity and Inclusion webpage.

3. Student Financial Aid

This support will enable the best and brightest to attend W&L Law, regardless of financial limits. Our average scholarship award is $27,846 and over 90% of students receive some form of financial aid.

4. Student Opportunities

Gifts to support activities such as journals, clinics, annd student organizations. Gifts applied to this option will promote greater opportunity within one's specialty to further develop and share legal writing skills, improve client-counsel interaction, and nurture interests within and beyond the legal field.

5. Unrestrictred/Area of Greatest Need

Functioning just as the Law Annual Fund has in the past, this designation allows the law school to meet expenses as they come up. The most recent example of this is the costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, such as classroom modifications for socially distanced instruction and PPE for members of the Law School community.
