Domestice Violence Services

Eligibility

Victims of Domestic Violence, who are at or below 200% of the federal poverty line, but who do not qualify for Legal Aid and do not have funds (or access to funds) to be able to pay for local private representation. In most instances the client must be a resident of Rockbridge Co., Lexington, or Buena Vista.

Limitations

CLPC will not serve as Guardian ad litem for child custody/abuse cases. CLPC will not accept fee-generating cases, such as products-liability cases or personal injury cases. The Community Legal Practice Center will assist client with the full range of legal issues the client presents, including, but not limited to:

Orders of Protection

  • Civil and Financial Matters
  • Custody and Visitation
  • Separation
  • Child support
  • Divorce
  • Selected Maintenance Claims
  • Public Benefits Problems
  • Housing Issues

Elder Client Services

Eligibility

Community members over 60, who are at or below 200% of the federal poverty line, but who do not qualify for Legal Aid and do not have funds (or access to funds) to be able to pay for local private representation. In most instances, the client must be a resident of Rockbridge Co., Lexington, or Buena Vista.

Limitations

CLPC will not serve as a Guardian or Custodian. CLPC will not accept fee-generating cases, such as products-liability cases or personal injury cases. The Community Legal Practice Center will assist client with the full range of legal issues the client presents, including, but not limited to:

  • Advanced Medical Directives
  • Civil and Financial Matters
  • Wills
  • Trusts
  • Family Matters
  • Benefit Eligibility and Applications
  • Public Benefits Problems
  • Housing Issues

Note that the CLPC will consider other clients that are in serious need of legal assistance but are unable to afford a private attorney or to obtain legal aid assistance. Simply contact the CLPC to request consideration.
