About

Joey Smith is Assistant Professor of Finance at the Williams School of Washington and Lee University. He also teaches in the Skills Immersion - Business experiential program at the Washington and Lee University School of Law.

Joey previously held academic appointments at William & Mary, Missouri Southern State University, Aquinas College, and the University of Arkansas. He holds a DBA (finance) from the University of Florida as well as an LLM in Securities Regulation from Georgetown, an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and a JD from William & Mary. He is a CFA Charterholder and received his undergraduate degree in Mathematical Economics from Hampden-Sydney College.

Prior to his academic career, Joey held several leadership positions in finance at Walmart Inc. at their headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Before Walmart, he served in the United States Air Force as a JAG Officer where he prosecuted courts-martial, reviewed government contracts, and drafted wills and trusts for servicemembers deploying and retirees in the local area.
