About
Matthew W. Light is an attorney with BotkinRose PLC in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He currently teaches Decedents' Estates and Trusts at the Washington and Lee University School of Law as a member of the adjunct faculty. He has taught previously in W&L Law's Fall Immersion - Business experiential program.
In his practice, Mr. Light assists clients with corporate and general business matters, contracts, real estate, succession planning, and a broad assortment of financing, purchase, and sale transactions. He often guides families through the estate administration process. Mr. Light also enjoys assisting local governments with both general legal needs and the specific needs of municipal financings. He serves as Town Attorney for the town of Broadway. In 2018, the Rockingham County Circuit Court appointed Mr. Light to be a Commissioner in Chancery.
Mr. Light lives in Harrisonburg with his wife and two children. He is a director of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Regional Sewer Authority, representing the City of Harrisonburg. Mr. Light is a recognized expert on the subject of Fenton Art Glass and maintains a hobby business dealing in vintage Fenton pieces. Before joining BotkinRose, he practiced law for thirteen years at a large local firm and also served for five years as Associate Pastor of an evangelical church in Harrisonburg.
