About

Michael Bombace is a financial technology and startup attorney. He is currently General Counsel at Jet Protocol, a borrowing and lending protocol on the Solana Blockchain. He teaches the e-commerce practicum and the law of Financial Technology seminar. His classes focus on the current and evolving state of financial technology and the law that currently applies and how it is changing.

Michael's research and focus is on decentralized finance (DeFi), Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), payments, privacy, and the regulatory frameworks that apply from money transmission, to securities, among others. He writes and presents on all of these topics. He has worked at Booz Allen, Citi, Ripple, Wyre, and Abaxx Associates. He routinely advises early-stage startups and large private companies on their product development, strategy, and regulatory obligations in the Fintech and Blockchain space. He has advised government clients on dark markets and over-the-horizon thinking around national security with cryptocurrencies and Blockchain. He has also built compliance programs from scratch for Fintech startups, and helped develop Citi's review process for global launches of payment products.

Michael volunteers for the American Bar Association and was an early volunteer for Bitcoin.org. He received his JD from the Washington and Lee University School of Law, and is an avid SCUBA diver and sailor.
