
HNBA LGBT Division Legacy Scholarship Supported by the HNBA LGBTQ+ Legacy Fund
About the Scholarship
The HNBA LGBT Division Legacy Scholarship awards law students with demonstrated success in law school and commitment to promoting LGBTQ+ rights, inclusion, and equity, particularly those which intersect with the HNBA VIA ("Vision in Action") goal to support the development and advancement of Hispanic students, legal professionals, and community members.
- The scholarship honors its winners through mentorship opportunities and financial support to ensure the successful completion of their educational and career aspirations.
- The HNBA LGBT Division will award one scholarship for $7,000 annually, subject to availability of funds and based upon recommendation of the Selection Committee.
- The Selection Committee will consider academic achievement, community engagement, extracurricular activity involvement, personal narratives, and financial need.
The award will be presented to the recipient on September 3, 2025 at the LGBT Summit that will take place during the HNBA Annual Convention. Attendance is highly recommended but not
required.
Eligibility Criteria
- Currently enrolled law student in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school or a recent law graduate from an ABA-accredited law school studying for a Bar Exam in the United States; and
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting LGBTQ+ rights, inclusion, and equity, particularly those which intersect with the development and advancement of Hispanic /Latino students, legal professionals, and community members.
Applicants will be evaluated on the strength of their complete application and all supporting materials and demonstrated commitment to support the needs and advancement of the LGBTQ+
community, including Hispanic/Latino LGBTQ+ individuals. Every effort will be made to award one scholarship and to reflect diversity in the award recipients.

- Law School Transcript (Unofficial Transcripts Accepted)
- Personal Statement (Not to Exceed 500 Words):
The personal statement should address how the applicant meets the eligibility criteria and how receiving the scholarship would impact the applicant's ability to meet their educational and/or career goals.
4. Two Letters of Recommendation
Each letter of recommendation should address how the recommender knows the applicant, and assess the potential contribution of the applicant either to LGBTQ+ rights and policy priorities or to the Hispanic/Latino legal community at-large.
Applications and Supporting Materials must be submitted by May 31, 2025
