The Corporate Counsel Award
Award for recent law graduate planning to go in-house and sit for the Virginia Bar Exam.
This initiative offers a monetary award to a graduating law student who intends to work as an in-house corporate counsel and to sit for the Virginia Bar Exam. One successful applicant will receive an award of $3,000.00 intended to defray such early career expenses as the application fees for the Virginia bar exam, bar prep courses or materials, and the first year's bar dues. Resumes, transcripts, GPAs, etc. will not be solicited or accepted from applicants, and the selection of the winner will be made by the Corporate Counsel Section solely on the basis of a 300 word or less essay that answers the following question:
"When you land your ideal in-house corporate legal job, how will you improve the practice of law in Virginia?"
The award will be paid by check to the recipient from the Virginia State Bar. The award will be open to law students who expect to sit for either the February or July bar examinations.
Essays should be submitted, along with the applicant's name and contact information, via email to vsbsections@vsb.org, by June 30 if you are sitting for the July bar exam or by January 31 if you are sitting for the February bar exam. If your essay is not selected as a winner, you may resubmit for the next deadline. Please include "Corporate Counsel Award" in the subject line
July Bar Exam takers: A winner will be announced and awarded in July.
February Bar Exam takers: A winner will be announced and awarded in February.
The award recipient will be announced/showcased on the VSB website and in eblasts to section members. If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact the section's liaison at jharris@vsb.org.
